Bluestem is a small facility offering the canine member of your family special care on a daily, weekly or extended basis.
Our
goal is to make your dog as comfortable at Bluestem as he or she is at
home. We offer Nature walks, Playtime, Bathing, Daycare, Special
requests. We cater to you.
The owner has several years experience
in the dog world as a handler and trainer of police service dogs and
versatile hunting dogs. When you can't take your pet with you, he'll be
in good hands at Bluestem.
Lodging Information 2012
Boarding:
$18.00 / night We charge by the night, not the day. If
you drop-off your dog during business hours and pick-up the next day
before 5pm, you will be charged for 1 night.
Early morning and late night drop-off
and pick-up by appointment.
10% discount for multiple dogs
Pick-up and Delivery Service
We will gladly pick-up your canine
family member and return him or her to your home, upon request. We
charge $10 each way for Byron area service and $15 for more distant
locations such as Rockford.
Outdoor activities
Country walk – 3/4
mile walk - $5.00
Bluestem Kennel is located on 42 acres
of restored prairie and young forest. Your dog will experience a
wealth of sights, sounds and odors as we explore the local habitat.
Water loving dogs can take a dip in the creek at the back of the
property.
Playtime – Running, retrieving
a frisbee or ball, or just one on one attention and petting. Whatever
your pet enjoys, we will try to accommodate.
$5.00 per session.
Grooming
Bath, Nail Trim & Brushing
Basic grooming services available most days include bathing, brushing and nail trimming of cooperative canines.
Please call for availability.Full service professional grooming by Jill Hungate available by appointment.
Lodging Suggestions
Bluestem Kennel provides Kuranda dog
beds for all of our clients.
No soft or stuffed toys in the runs,
please. We want to avoid choking and obstruction hazards during your
dog's stay.
Please let us know about your dog's
dining habits. We will feed at his/her normal eating time. To keep
your pet's digestive system regular, please bring their food from
home. If you wish to package individual portions in ziplock bags,
that would be much appreciated.
We feed our working dogs Native 4 from
Kent Feeds. If your dog eats Native we will gladly provide the food.
All dogs must be current on
vaccinations and kennel cough.
About Us
Bluestem Kennel is family owned and operated. Our children are involved in
kennel activities and love spending time with our clients. We opened
Bluestem Kennel during the summer of 2010. We have a small facility
in order to provide special care for each of our canine clients.
I have been
involved with dogs professionally for many years. I was a police
service dog (PSD) handler for several years with a large area police
department, then supervised the department's canine unit. I have
trained with many local, state and federal agencies, as well as the
US Police Canine Association. My canine partner, Bosco, was well
known in the region as an outstanding PSD.
Breeds:
We have raised,
trained and bred hunting dogs and received certifications through the
North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association and the Verein
Deutsch Drahthaar.
Several of our
pups have achieved careers in police service, search & rescue,
personal protection, versatile hunting and as family companions.
We currently raise
and train Deutsch Drahthaar, or German Wirehaired Pointers, and
Belgian Malinois.
